Help Support Colorado Springs Firefighters

PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT FIRE FOUNDATION
OF COLORADO SPRINGS

The Fire Foundation of Colorado Springs was established in 2015 by business and civic leaders as an independent, non-profit organization to strengthen the services of the Colorado Springs Fire Department while promoting excellence in the department and improving public safety by providing resources not otherwise available from the City.

Recent Projects Made Possible By the Fire Foundation of Colorado Springs

WHOLE BLOOD PROGRAM

Launched: May 2024
Purpose: Provides immediate, life-saving transfusions in the field for trauma patients experiencing critical blood loss.

  • Currently Equipped Units: 2 Medical Lieutenant Rigs

  • Operation Hours: 24/7

  • Units Carried per Rig: 2

  • Impact: This pioneering initiative enables medics to deliver whole blood transfusions in the crucial minutes before hospital arrival, significantly increasing survival rates in traumatic emergencies.

  • 100 recipients have received this life saving technology. 72 would’ve perished had they not had whole blood on scene.

Drone Operations Program

Launched: August 2023
Purpose: Expands CSFD’s capabilities in search and rescue, fire scene monitoring, hazardous materials incidents, and disaster response using aerial technology.

Drones Funded by the Foundation: 3

  • End Goal:

    • Multiple drone teams covering both north and south sides of the city

    • Each team equipped with primary and backup drones

    • Capability to respond to multiple incidents simultaneously

    • A larger drone with payload capabilities

    • A smaller training drone

    • Additional support drone

Drone Support Vehicle

  • Current Vehicle: 2018 Chevy Suburban

    • Carries 2 drones, portable TV, Starlink, and an inverter

    • Frequently in repair and limited by outdated tech

  • Proposed Upgrade: PowerBoost Hybrid F-150

    • Benefits:

      • Reliable charging capabilities

      • Hard-mounted swing-out TV for incident command

      • Improved communication tools

      • Expanded storage for up to 3 drones and essential equipment

      • Better overall mobility and readiness

Heads-Up CPR

Hope to launch in 2025/2026

Purpose:
Improves outcomes in cardiac arrest by using new techniques and equipment that reduce pressure in the brain and increase blood flow to vital organs.

  • What It Is: Unlike traditional CPR, Heads-Up CPR gradually elevates the patient’s head and torso during resuscitation. This approach is paired with specially designed devices to optimize circulation and protect the brain.

  • Why It Matters: Clinical studies show that this technique improves neurological outcomes and increases survival rates following cardiac arrest. (Studies are showing a 40% increase in lives saved in the most severe cardiac calls.)

Foundation’s Role: Helped fund the training and specialized equipment to bring this innovative method to Colorado Springs first responders.
